Phoenix Herpetological Society

Have you ever wanted to feed a giant tortoise or stare into the eyes of a cobra or get up close and personal with a crocodile?  Maybe not, but if you do, you can join us for a guided tour of the Phoenix Herpetological Society.  On our guided public tours, members of the general public sign up for a three hour behind-the-scenes look at the largest reptile rescue in the country.  See over 1700 animals including turtles, tortoises, large carnivorous lizards such as monitors and tegus, iguanas of all types, a building full of non-venomous snakes and small lizards, our Venom & Research Lab with over 230 venomous snakes, and our crocodilian collection (the second largest in the country!).  You'll even see Galapagos Tortoises, Gila Monsters, King Cobras, and Saltwater Crocodiles!

We even allow guests to interact with some of our special animals, which for many people is a once in a lifetime experience.  Guests will get to learn about endangered species, how we contribute to conservation of those animals, some of the considerations we must take into consideration when having these reptiles in Arizona, which reptiles are good pets for children or adults, adaptations of animals from across the world, and much more!  This educational, hands-on, and exciting adventure is definitely one to remember!

We must limit the number of people on a tour to 30 maximum, so please make reservations in advance by visiting our Calendar of Events and finding the scheduled tour that works best for you or your group.  You can register through our website and if you have any questions, you can email our Director of Education & Outreach, Crystie Baker, at

If you do not see a tour that will work with your schedule, you may contact Crystie at and she will do her best to accommodate your request, but please understand that since all tours are guided and a substantial amount of time, all requests may not be able to be granted.

Cost is $15 for Seniors & Children, $20 for adults, and toddlers are free.

Please note that in hot months, tours are mostly conducted during the early morning hours.  However in cooler months, tours are offered in late mornings or early afternoons.  Since reptiles are cold-blooded, we must schedule tours to accommodate when they will be most active and available for guests to view.
